Welcome To The 9/11 Memorial
Steel piece located at Somerset Fire Dept
This one 3 foot piece of steel has had a very long journey in fact. After being attacked back in Sept 11, 2001 the united states was in a stand of of not being able to believe of what had just happened and most at some points couldnt believe at what had just happened. After the recovery process had started the world was slowly only doing what they could see possible to be done remove the rubble and try to size up exactly the magnitutde of what had happened. All had now begun. Most of the fire departments and recovery crews were mostly trying to uncover remains of any bodys that were able to be identified after what had come down on them. Most people were in alot of hurt as they went along with there jobs of cleaning and removing the remains from the sight. All the steel collected from whats now known as ground zero was transported by barge to New Jersey were there steel pieces were placed for crews of medical examiners and others to remove and human remains and or flesh ,from there they were transported to the JFK Airport ( John F. Kennedy ) to be placed into plane hangers in which there they were seperated by size and color. From that point on the race had begun for all Departments around the United States for them to recieve a piece of steel to show appreciation and on some departments to show the time they spent down there volenteering to help with the crisis. What you see to your left is the piece of steel from one of the towers unfortunetely it was not able to be identified but is now located at the Somerset Fire Department. Which as you can see there is a flag sitting ontop of the steel which was used on one of the SFD trucks for one season of past years. Also resting on top is a frame with pictures of FDNY recovery stages and a shirt of one of the fallen men who gave there life inorder to try to save another. We owe to take our hats off and say thanks for the men and women who gave there life trying to save another. And also for the people who lost family and friends in 9/11 attacks so next time you drive by SFD stop in and give thanks to one of the men and women who went and helped your country try to recover from one of the worst terrorist attacks ever in history carried onto the United States Of America.
